A loyal pooch was reunited with his beloved owner after being separated for almost two years, thanks to the owner’s persistent search. The heartwarming story of their reunion is truly remarkable. The husky first came into Kameroun Mares’ life during a time when she craved love and companionship.
In the summer of 2013, Mares was battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia when she came across a cute little puppy who she adopted and named Semper Fidelis, or Semper for short. The pup became Mares’ loyal companion, always by her side, even as she underwent chemotherapy. However, a turn of events separated Mares from her beloved Semper. In 2016, she had to go to California from Florida for further medical treatment, and her roommate agreed to care for Semper. Unfortunately, Mares received a shocking call from her ex-roommate, who informed her that Semper had gone missing. Despite this, Mares still holds on to the hope of being reunited with Semper someday.
Upon arriving home, she scoured every inch of her house to locate her lost dog Semper. As time passed, even when she went to California, she never stopped searching for him and stayed connected with Florida shelters. For one long year, Mares put up posters on pet websites, contacted 15 veterinary offices in the area where she used to live, reached out to humane organizations and shelters, shared details about Semper on Facebook, lost dog forums, and various pages and organizations. Despite registering his microchip from the age of three months, she received no news about him. Her worry and longing for her dear pet led her to seek assistance from a private investigator named Ana Campos.
According to Campos, the dog’s owner had purchased a lifetime registration with AKC Reunite. However, after a year, she was advised to check the chip again. In May 2017, she visited the humane society and discovered that someone else had put their name on Semper’s chip in April 2016. This other microchip company failed to check if an owner was already registered on the chip. As a result, Semper was put up for sale on Craigslist for $200. Finally, after much effort, Mares and Semper were reunited, resulting in tears of joy from both parties. Campos expressed his delight in having played a role in the reunion.
